Arizona Prisons Go On Lockdown, Should You Be Worried?
Prisons are where we keep the most dangerous individuals in our state. Different from jails, Prisons are complexes meant to hold threats to the general population, and are able to manage with the worst of the worst.
Somehow, even they've been unable to stop the carnage happening inside their walls.
Arizona Prisons on Lockdown
Over Easter weekend, several state prisons across Arizona will be put on lockdown. This means prisoners will be kept in their cells from anywhere between 22 and 24 hours a day, and no visitation hours are allowed.
The prisons on lockdown will be:
- ASPC- Eyman’s Rynning unit
- ASPC- Lewis' Buckley, Morey, and Rast units
- ASPC- Tucson's Cimarron unit
- ASPC- Winslow’s Kaibab unit
- ASPC- Yuma’s Dakota unit
The only official reason for this lockdown is "security concerns", but based on past activity in these specific prisons, we can come to a conclusion on why.

Why are These Prisons on Lockdown?
Over the past two weeks, a trend has begun in the Arizona prison complex, and not a good one. Inmates are dying left and right, with five dead in the past two weeks. The largest addition to this was Ricky Wassenaar's slaughter of three inmates at his complex in Buckeye.
Similar murders have followed, leaving family members with incarcerated loved ones nervous of the future. While this isn't the "official" reasoning, we can assume the brutal deaths of these inmates, all at different prisons, is pushing the ASPC to be more diligent, and take time ensuring order stays inside prison walls.
