The citizens of Cochise County lined up for miles, hoping to catch a glimpse of Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate.

Standing in the hot morning sun, holding signs and waving flags, the dedicated supporters said they wanted Mr. Trump to know he was welcome in Sierra Vista.

Donald Trump's Supporters Talk About the Border

Many people who showed up for the roadside rally told me they came because they were unhappy with the current administration's border policies. The supporters were very passionate and had strong opinions about the state of our southern border with Mexico, many believing the policies were not working.

I asked Bobby, one of the supporters who showed up early with an American flag, why he made the trek to line up along the roadside.

"I came to show Mr. Trump that Sierra Vista is behind him."

Bobby told me he knows local people who work with the Border Patrol. "How do you feel about the border right now?" I asked.

"It's very sad and upsetting," Bobby told me. "Morale...[with my friends who work for the Border Patrol]...is very low. The local agents have great support from their supervisors here in Cochise County, but the current administration isn't at all supportive. It's a mess, and it's sad."

I asked Bobby if he thought a Trump presidency could turn that around. "Absolutely," he said without hesitation. "Mr. Trump's policies were working."

Trump Supporters Came from All Over Southeastern Arizona

Donald Trujillo drove down from Oro Valley to show his support for Donald Trump. Trujillo told me he was concerned about the border and the state of immigration under the current president.

"I don't know why [Joe Biden] stopped the remain in Mexico policy," he opined. "With the fentanyl crisis getting worse, it's time to return to leadership that cares about the border and our families' safety."

The folks I spoke with expressed worries about illegal immigration and human trafficking in Cochise County. They want Mr. Trump to know that Southeastern Arizona supports him.
