A Career as a Detention Officer: Requirements

To work as a Detention Officer, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or G.E.D. You'll also need a clean driving record and be able to pass a background check and the pre-employment drug screening.
If you're interested, apply quickly, because this position is only open until the job is filled. The position has an annual salary of $45,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package. You'll even gain membership in the Correctional Officer Retirement Plan if hired.

What Does a Detention Officer Do?

Detention officers manage inmates. They'll control and supervise their movements and work to ensure the safety of other inmates and officers. Detention officers assist with the in-processing and release of inmates and transport them to and from detention facilities.

Other duties include supervising visitations between inmates and members of the public, guarding inmates during work assignments, and conducting inventories.
