Sierra Vista USD Announces Big Changes for Next School Year
The Sierra Vista Unified School District Governing Board made a big announcement this week, approving a significant change for the 2026–2027 school year.
According to a press release provided by SVUSD Public Information Officer Valerie Weller, Bella Vista Elementary will be consolidated into another SVUSD elementary school.
The consolidation site has yet to be determined. According to the district, a parent survey will present options for families, and a decision will eventually be made based on parent feedback and feasibility.
District leaders carefully reviewed enrollment numbers, facility needs, and long‑term sustainability before coming to this decision. The goal, they said, is to make sure resources are used wisely while still supporting students and families in Sierra Vista.
How Is Huachuca Mountain Growing?
Huachuca Mountain Elementary School will also see some changes. Over the next few years, the school will expand to a full Kindergarten through 8th-grade school.
Beginning next school year, the campus will add 7th grade. The district plans to expand further, adding 8th grade in 2027–2028. The intention, according to the press release, is that families will be able to count on a continuous, high‑quality learning environment, and students won't have to switch schools.
Leaders believe this will give students more chances to grow, learn, and stay connected to a familiar community.
