The hit Max show The Pitt has been circling the internet for a while now and for good reason.

For those who don’t know, The Pitt is a 2025 medical drama series split into the hours of one shift for episodes. It follows the stories of student doctors, attendings and, of course, patients that come into the emergency hospital in Pittsburg, PA.

The storylines, characters, and even the whole show being technically one day is what keeps people watching. In fact, the show received an 8.9/10 rating on IMDb and a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, for Utahns, there are a few “special shoutouts” to the state in both sweet and funny ways. So, for those who were paying attention you may have caught them.

If you haven’t given the show a try, I highly recommend it. It keeps the focus on the patient's treatment, allows for light moments and laughter, shows the chaos of an emergency department, and keeps the doctors human. The Pitt is worth the watch and a revolutionary medical drama.

How Utah Plays a Role in The Pitt

First Mention

For those who have started the show or seen it, you know that student doctor Whitaker, played by Gerran Howell, goes through a lot of wardrobe changes on his first day. He gets peed on, spills Mylanta on himself, and of course covered in blood.

On one of the instances in Episode 5 11 a.m. Whitaker is giving a cyclist treatment on his leg (debridement) when he hits an artery. That patient got the injury from riding his bike in Moab, Utah.

A small Utah shoutout but, the scene is memorable because not only is Whitaker once again covered in a bodily fluid, but he panics in a hilarious way. I mean, it is his first day.

Second Mention

Moving further into the series at Episode 9 3 p.m., many things have happened. About halfway through the episode, student doctor Victoria Javadi played by Shabana Azeez is working with Nurse Matteo Diaz, who is admittedly very attractive. While working on Earl, a patient who has evidently been in the E.R. a long time and always asks for sandwiches, Javadi attempts to ask out Diaz.

Earl is watching the whole thing go down hilariously bad. Javadi is nervous and Diaz turns her down politely but it's still so awkward!

Luckily, Head Nurse Dana, played by Katherine LaNasa, comes and rescues Javadi. While asking Javadi if she is okay, Dana learns that it's a small crush. Javadi says:

“It’s like parents once took me skiing for Christmas in Utah and from the moment I got off the plane, I just—I could not catch my breath. No matter how hard I tried, the altitude made me feel awkward and uncoordinated...I spent the whole vacation on my butt, dizzy and panting. Mateo is like a human Utah”.

Dana laughs and tells Javadi she has worked with a few Utah’s and that she wishes her many, many Utah’s in her life.

A cute ending to an awkward moment for sure, and hey, it features Utah! Though Javadi was talking about the altitude, Utah does have some breathtaking views so perhaps she was also astounded by that...and Mateo.
