This Poolside Myth Just Got Busted by the Red Cross
Alright, so If you grew up in a Mexican family then you probably still have the PTSD of a parent yelling, "Wait 30 minutes before you get into the pool or you’ll cramp and sink!"
I know growing up, that was something my mom always told us and we didn’t even want to test the waters because whatever mom said was always right! But apparently science is proving that sometimes mom isn't always right!! *Gasp in Spanish*
Turns Out You Don’t Have to Wait 30 Minutes After Eating to Swim!
Yup. According to the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Committee, “eating before swimming is not a contributing risk for drowning and can be dismissed as a myth.”

So where did this myth even come from?
Turns out, it first showed up in the 1908 Boy Scout manual called Scouting for Boys, which warned: “Never bathe in deep water very soon after a meal... it is very likely to cause cramps... and so you get drowned.”
Even a physician, and former high school swim team champ, called this myth out, saying he always swam better after eating toast at 6:00 a.m. than when he skipped breakfast.
So the next time someone tries to keep you away from the pool after you just ate make sure to tell them that science has proven this myth to be incorrect! And show them the proof!....... Sorry mom!
