You Should Avoid THIS Color Swimsuit in Arizona Pools

As we're rolling into the summer months, and pools are being readied for the busy summer season, it's time to start thinking about pool and swimming safety. The American Red Cross has some tips for Water Safety. Here are some tips to get you started.

Learn to Swim

Did you know the Cove Aquatic Center offers swim lessons, to children as young as 3 years old?  There are even parent and child aquatic classes that begin helping small children become familiar with the water as early as 6 months old.

Teaching a child water safety and helping them learn to swim may be the best preparation children can receive in order to stay safe around pools and other bodies of water.

Water Safety

Learning to swim is a great foundation for adults and children, but a few more water and pool safety protocols help keep everyone safe.

First, slippery surfaces around pools can pose a hazard, so encourage kids to slow down around the pool.

If you're visiting a lake or the ocean this summer, make sure kids wear properly fitting life jackets, and that it's US Coast Guard approved.

Never leave kids unattended, even if they're wearing a life jacket, and never small kids go out in a watercraft or flotation device alone.

Pool Gates

Families who own pools may be more likely to impress water safety on their kids, but if you're visiting friends or relatives, or an apartment or hotel with a pool, kids who are curious and unfamiliar with water safety may want to see the water for themselves.

Always make sure you talk to kids about staying away from the water's edge without an adult, and be sure gates are locked at all times.

Choose Your Swimsuit Color Wisely

A TikToker went viral this week when she advised parents to avoid a certain color when choosing a bathing suit.  TikToker Nikki Scarnati is a swim instructor who posted a video advising parents to avoid buying blue bathing suits for kids.

Most pools are blue, she reasons, and the blue swimsuit against the blue pool background make spotting your child in the water very difficult.

She even put her daughter in a blue swimsuit to illustrate the problem. See for yourself:
