Arizona's 5 Cs

  • Copper: Take a trip to Bisbee and note the reddish landscape that stretches into the hills. You can see the history of mining in the soil right before your eyes. Arizona’s rich mineral resources have been used for centuries, and copper mining is a cornerstone of our state’s economy. Arizona is a leading producer of copper, which is used for things like electrical wiring, electronics, and coins.
  • Cattle: Ranching has a long history in Arizona, dating back to when the state had as many as 1.75 million head of cattle in 1918. Arizona produces enough beef every year to feed over 4.6 million Americans.
  • Cotton: Cotton was introduced as a cash crop in the 1910s, and Arizona’s cotton industry thrived with the development of Pima long-staple cotton. Arizona is still a significant cotton producer.
  • Citrus: When you think of oranges and lemons, do you think of Arizona or coastal states like Florida or California? Arizona is a significant producer of citrus fruits. Early irrigation made growing citrus fruit in our desert climate not only possible but also propelled the industry to one of the top five industries in our state!
  • Climate: It's not just dry heat. Arizona’s climate is a major draw for people around the world. With over three hundred days of sunshine every year and mild winters, Arizona's weather is part of the "Snowbird" phenomenon. Every year, these visitors bring dollars into our state and contribute to the economy.
