Don't Look for These Five Products in Arizona

Food producers and restaurants constantly look for ways to trim the bottom line. Sometimes, that means dumping products that are unpopular or don't sell well.

It's hard to say goodbye to a product we've fallen in love with, even if the rest of the world can't understand our obsession. Here are five products you can no longer buy in Arizona. Will you miss them?

Wendy's Grilled Chicken Sandwich

It's hard to find healthy items on a fast-food menu, so fans were outraged when Wendy's removed the Grilled Chicken Sandwich from its menu.

Reddit was rife with angry comments about the removal of their favorite menu option, with speculation Wendy's removed the sandwich as a ploy to "pinch pennies" with a product that uses a smaller piece of chicken. Side Note: Due to some, ahem, bold language, I'll spare you the Reddit comments.

Wendy’s dumped the Grilled Chicken Sandwich in favor of their new Grilled Chicken Ranch Wrap to compete with other fast-food chains offering comparable items.

Ronzoni Pastina

When Ronzoni announced they were dropping Pastina, their tiny, star-shaped pasta, it was met with one of two reactions:

  1. How will I ever make grandma's legacy soup recipe!???
  2. What's Pastina?

If you fell into the first camp, you had a real problem on your hands. The one-of-a-kind, tiny pasta stars are unique, and there doesn't seem to be an available substitute.

Fans of Pastina started several petitions to bring the product back to store shelves.

The Choco Taco

It's a taco. It's a chocolatey ice cream treat. It's the Choco Taco.

I had my first Choco Taco when a friend who ran a Rubio's restaurant in Tucson insisted I try one. It wasn't hard to convince us to end our meals with this delicious, folded ice cream cone, and we found it was the perfect little dessert.

Despite a cult following, the Choco Taco was stopped by the manufacturer, Klondike, which, according to Wikipedia, "discontinued the product due to a sharp increase in demand across its brands and to ensure the availability of the remainder of its products."

Progresso Soup Flavors

Progresso Soup began to shrink its product line during the pandemic. They chopped over 40 different soups from their product line.

That accounts for almost half of the soups they sold. And according to CEO Jeffrey Harmening, many discontinued flavors won’t return. The real question is, did you even notice? As long as Italian Wedding Soup is still available, we're good.

Heinz Real Mayonnaise

When I think of Heinz, I think of ketchup, and I'm not alone.

The US Sun reported last spring that Heinz was ditching their Real Mayonnaise product after costs rose and demand dropped. Boasting "100% Cage Free Eggs" on the label, this product might have been too niche for the average consumer.

In the crowded field of condiments, the Heinz brand couldn't hold onto enough market share with this mayonnaise to justify continuing the product.

Sierra Mist Soda

Ok, Sierra Mist lemon-lime soda is gone. Kind of.

Last year, parent company PepsiCo decided to drop the lemon-lime soda, only to replace it with a lemon-lime soda. The new product is a lemon-lime soda called Starry. Which is lemon-lime flavored. You get the idea.

Is Starry the same soda in a different package? It depends on who you ask. Either way, don't go looking for Sierra Mist. It's gone the way of the Choco Taco.
