Celebrating Animals: Cochise County Comes Together for Animal Welfare
I’ve always loved animals, and I like to support groups that protect them and help them find homes, especially in our own community.
If you’re like me, you never miss a chance to pet an alpaca, meet a new dog, or learn something cool about reptiles.
That’s why the Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center created its annual event, Celebrating Animals.
It’s now a Sierra Vista tradition and has grown a lot over the years. Each year, almost every animal group in Cochise County comes together to showcase and advocate for the animals they care for.

What’s Happening at the Event
This year’s event has something for everyone: an AKC breed obedience and rally match, adoption booths, educational displays, alpacas, horses, reptiles, a petting zoo, demonstrations, raffles, and lots of food trucks to keep you fueled while you explore.
One of my favorite things is bringing my dog along. All well-behaved dogs are welcome, so if you visit the park this Saturday, feel free to bring your furry friend too.

Bisbee Veterinary Services On-Site Vax Clinic
If you join the festivities this Saturday, bring your pet and try to arrive early. Dr. Nicole Finch from Bisbee Veterinary Services will run a low-cost vaccination clinic on-site, and the first 25 pets will receive a free microchip.
When and Where to Go
Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Sierra Vista.
The event is free, family-friendly, and great for anyone who loves animals or wants to learn more about caring for them. Kids will enjoy the petting zoo and the chance to meet animals up close and talk to their handlers.

Why You Shouldn’t Miss It
If you want to adopt a forever pet, talk to the team from the Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center about the Precious Pups. Lately, the center has had more owner turn-ins than adoptions, so they’ve had to make some hard decisions.
Saturday, May 9th, is the last day for the Precious Pups. These special dogs already have a microchip, are vaccinated, are spayed or neutered, and will receive six weeks of free training. They started with 12 dogs, but only a few are left, and time is running out.

Whether you want to adopt, learn something new, or just enjoy a fun day outside, Celebrating Animals is a great community event that brings people and pets together. Stop by the park, meet some wonderful animals, and enjoy a beautiful Saturday in Sierra Vista.
