Addicts can be found everywhere, and without reliable care they have no hope of one day getting out of the hole they're in.

Luckily, relief is coming soon.

The One Arizona Opioid Settlement

The light at the end of the tunnel for Arizona may be here. A series of lawsuits levied against opioid distributors and manufacturers has led to the state in possession of around $1.1 Billion.

That hefty sum is being put to good use across the state of Arizona, reimbursing cities and counties for the countless millions being spent on combatting drug use. Richie Taylor, the State Attorney General's Office Communications Director stated that this payout was meant to make "taxpayers whole for what they've already spent to address these crises over the years and to help people who are suffering or have suffered because of the opioid crisis."

56% of the funds will be distributed to local governments over the next 18 months, while 44% will stay with the state for any drug treatment they could need.

As part of the distribution plan, Cochise County will be receiving $11,850,573.94, which comes out to about 1.8% of the funds allocated to local governments.

This money will be used on a variety of programs, such as drug treatment centers, drug safety education, and keeping Narcan, the overdose recovery drug, available.  The money will be making its way through the county over the next year and a half, and residents should begin to see a difference as the funding takes root.
